Spill It Sundays: TV Shows

Once again, I've been a terrible, no good, inconsistent blogger. Forgive me. I've decided to Link up to Arman's Spill It Sunday! This week's theme: TV shows.

What was your favourite TV series growing up?
When I was a wee one...

Sesame Street, obviously. There are old videos of me reading magazines and poorly singing the theme song while I watched the TV shows before age 2. I was such a nerd.
When I was a kid...

My dad and I would have "Kablam parties" every Friday night when I was a kid. We would go to the store and pick up a bunch of snacks, usually Cool Ranch Doritos and crunchy Cheez Doodles (not Cheetos!), and just hang out watching this weird Nickelodeon series. I was also really into Spongebob. I blame my dad for that one, too.
When I was in college...

My freshman roommate and I were obsessed with Brett Michael's Rock of Love on Vh1. No, it wasn't even a good reality TV show, but we loved laughing at Brett's sad attempts to bed these women and maintain his image despite the obvious fake hair. What is romantic about telling someone you want them to administer your insulin? Nothing. At least not in my eyes.
What is your current favourite TV series?
I really love a lot of TV shows for different reasons. I've mentioned before here that I am hopelessly in love with Gunnar on Nashville and Captain Hook on Once Upon a Time. Their attractiveness is more appealing to me than the actual content of the shows, to be honest.
I find myself talking about Duck Dynasty far too often and realize that I definitely watch it too much. Whenever I scroll through the TV guide and see Duck Dynasty is on A&E, I turn it on immediately. I have a little crush on Jase and I find Si and Willie to be hilarious. It doesn't help that the rest of my family has the same problem.

As for new TV series that I'm loving, I have to say Brooklyn Nine Nine is my number one. It needed to be said somewhere in this post. Does anyone else find Andy Samberg to be kind of sexy?

If you could guest star in ANY TV show, which would it be?
I would have to say New GirlNew Girl is basically the ideal primetime TV show for my sense of humor. I really love awkward, uncomfortable comedy in a TV series, but it's usually found in more obscure shows like Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! (an Adult Swim classic)...

And Portlandia. The bookshop skits are gold.

Back to New Girl... I really just want to hang out with Schmidt and Winston. I would totally be BFFs with them in real life. Maybe I should just be Jess. I'm awkward enough.

What genre of  television do you enjoy the most? (Reality, Action, Drama, Comedy)
Definitely comedy. I prefer comedy in any form of media, really. At the end of the day, I want to laugh.
Yes, I marathon Duck Dynasty, Top Chef, and a slew of other reality TV shows if it happens to be on, but comedy most captures my attention.
Which TV series do you think should NOT have been renewed after it’s first season yet had?
Oh, I could go on forever about TV shows that shouldn't have been renewed. If we're talking reality TV shows, definitely any series that chronicles the lives of the Kardashians. I'm sorry (not really), but they just do not deserve their fame, nor do I want to watch them drone on with their flat affect and overly done up appearances about whatever drama they've been able to muster up this week. Yet I will still watch it if my sister turns it on...I never claimed to be perfect.
Which TV series do you think deserved to be renewed yet was not?
Ben & Kate! I wanted to cry when that show was cancelled! It was so funny, and made Tuesday nights the best comedy night on TV. I don't even understand how it was cancelled in the middle of its first season. RIP.

Thanks, Arman, for the fun blog post idea :)

MIMM: Let's not focus on the weather

The weather today was exceptionally disgusting. Snow, rain, slush, fog, and a forecast for even more craptastic weather tomorrow, followed by frigid temperatures through the weekend. The dreaded winter is making it's impending arrival known.

So in an effort to keep in line with the Marvelous in My Monday philosophy, I shant focus on the weather. Instead, I'll focus on the weekend, because it was enjoyable.

My hair had a mind of it's own this weekend. I may not have looked marvelous, but I can laugh at myself and rock it.
Out of control.
I stupidly forgot the top item on my grocery list this weekend: coffee. We were completely out of coffee at home, which is a cause for panic since my family is caffeine-dependent. To say that coffee is the reason I get out of bed in the morning would not entirely be false. My little oops did result in a wonderful clearance purchase at Marshall's. Smores coffee! It's mind-blowingly delicious.
Out of coffee and I find this for $3? Yeah, that's destiny.
Saturday night, I ventured out the the Celtic Pub for a taste of the Irish dive bar scene. And what luck, a metal band was playing! It was appropriately unclassy and unmarvelously marvelous. Of course, no night of mine is complete without an awkward encounter. That night's uncomfortable situation was brought to me by the girl in the yoga pants with less than the average number of teeth, who decided it was a good idea to let me know that I was "sexy as hell and beautiful" and she's "normally shy, but it was the alcohol talking." Yep, thanks. Now I can feel good about myself.

Both Saturday and Sunday included my morning yoga routines as usual. Man, am I feeling them today.

I also went out in an effort to complete some Christmas shopping both days. Yep, no luck. I did, however, score big time for myself. A shirt on clearance for $5 and yoga leggings for $10! I can't resist bright colors and odd patterns.
If I could wear these everywhere all the time, I would.
Sunday evening was spent slaving away in the kitchen to make pulled pork, wheat berry salad for the week, and a double batch of red velvet cookies for my sister's boyfriend. The cream cheese icing just would not come together. I dedicated about an hour and an entire bag of powdered sugar to get it where it needed to be. My family is lucky I love them so much.

Fresh out of the oven and frosted. I got lazy with the decorating.

As for my actual Monday, tonight's vinyasa and hot yoga classes were tough, but overall relaxing.

I'm currently vegging on my couch with a cup of Celestial Seasonings' Candy Cane Lane green tea in my favorite creepy Santa mug.

Watch out, he'll kill you with warm comfort and antioxidants.

Linking up to Katie's Marvelous in My Monday as usual!

The Awkward First Post

Hello and welcome to my blog! I've been following various healthy living blogs for a while now, and after constant offhand (and some not-so-subtle) remarks about how I have to start a blog, I finally caved.

I guess I should start with a little about myself and what I hope to gain from blogging...

My name is Jordan. 24-years-old, English Writing and Health Psychology major, drowning in the debt I've accumulated through student loans, and attempting to better myself by undoing some personal mistakes and overcoming some things from my not-so-distant past that were entirely out of my control. Life threw me a curveball when my dad passed away in August 2010 after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer only about five months prior. Looking back, my life was pretty simple before then, and I'm so lucky to have had such a great childhood. I coped with it pretty well, but hit some roadblocks along the path that got me to this blog post today.

Fortunately for me, I stumbled into a yoga studio in 2012 that completely changed my past experiences with yoga and I've since become addicted...Addicted to the challenge of new poses, the therapeutic atmosphere, and the incredible people I've met along the way. (Shout out to Paula Paluch, my yoga instructor at Shanti Yoga and Fitness, who is not only an inspiration but an amazing friend! I don't know where I'd be today without you!) While I'm passionate about my practice, I don't ever take myself too seriously. I have a tendency to goof off a lot during classes. Sorry, not sorry.

Outside of yoga, my life is super stressful, but I try to deal with it the best I can by focusing on the surreal experiences I have on a daily basis, joking about the bad experiences, and constantly trying to find a new job and a new creative outlet. I guess blogging can help me knock out all three at once, minus the new job thing.

Okay, so this first post ended up much longer than I intended. To sum it all up, I plan to blog about my boring-but-not-actually-so-boring life, strange interactions, fitness, recipe experiments, and my attempts to find a balance between it all. To quote Bright Eyes, "the scales always find a way to level out."
